Our visitors have voted, and congratulations to all of the schools who took part in this year’s World Turtle Week School Challenge!

 Our grand prize winner is

Elkhorn Public School’s Mrs. Alvarado’s grade 3 class!

This lucky class will enjoy a free trip to the Toronto Zoo including admission, transportation and a visit with the turtles. What a great way to end the school year!

The runner ups are from:

Finch P.S.

Woodlands School

North Agincourt JPS

Cresthaven P.S.

These classes will receive a visit by one of our staff with a Species at Risk turtle friend!

World Turtle Week was a great success at the Toronto Zoo thanks to all of the participants!  Ending on World Turtle Day, May 23rd, this event celebrates turtles from around the world and their connection to biodiversity and local cultural significance.

The week was filled with family friendly activities at the America’s Wetland Outdoor Exhibit, including turtle themed games, “Bobbers” the Blanding’s turtle mascot and some giant inflatable turtles.

The pavilions were also in on the action with fabulous turtle sculptures created by local school classes. The sculptures represent the cultural and conservation significance of turtles and have been created by elementary children throughout the GTA.

If you didn’t get a chance to see these sculptures over World Turtle Week, be sure to visit the Zoo’s education building to see some of the favorites on display!

World Turtle Week is done until next year, but Zoo programming for schools is advertised year-round though the Zoo’s Education E-Newsletter. If you want to get involved in school programming at the Toronto Zoo or get on the Education E-Newsletter list, please contact our Education department at schools@torontozoo.ca
