Students Saving Turtles

Students from Pierre Elliott Trudeau Public School

On May 20th the Adopt-A-Pond the Toronto Zoo’s Wetland Conservation Programme was proud to receive a donation of over $260 from a group of students at Pierre Elliott Trudeau Public School.

These students created bird artwork that hangs in windows to prevent birds from flying into them. They sold their artwork to raise money for conservation and decided on helping turtles and wetlands through a donation to the Adopt-A-Pond Programme at Toronto Zoo.

Adopt-A-Pond’s Stewardship Coordinator, Crystal, met the students during their recent visit to the Zoo. She spoke to the children about how their donation will support wetland restoration and help the threatened Blanding’s turtle. A hands-on opportunity to touch a turtle shell rounded out the special visit and each student was given an “I Love Turtles” wristband in appreciation of their support.
