Turtles around the world are threatened with extinction, but they are also some of the most honoured and celebrated creatures on earth! Join Toronto Zoo’s Adopt-A-Pond Wetland Conservation Programme for a fun filled day at the Zoo where your family will discover the diversity of culture and mythology associated with turtles; how conservationists are helping to save turtles globally; and how you can protect these amazing animals here in Ontario.
Visit the Americas Pavilion to learn how to identify all eight of Ontario’s turtles, how you can help Ontario turtles through our Turtle Tally citizen science programme, and play turtle themed games with kid friendly prizes!
Americas Wetlands area will be packed full of excitement with terrific turtle games, face painting and Bobbers our huggable Blanding’s turtle mascot! Don’t miss out on our turtle bouncy castle, where your $2 donation goes directly to turtle conservation projects right here in Ontario!
In the Indo-Malayan Pavilion, help GTA students win a free trip to the Zoo! Kids from kindergarten to grade 8 participated with their class to learn about turtles, then created artistic version of their favourite turtle species. They need the help of visitors like you to vote on their artwork, where the class with the most votes will receive a free trip to the Toronto Zoo!
The Adopt-A-Pond Programme participates in, and hosts, a number of conservation events you can participate in throughout the year; including World Wetlands Day, Earth Day Celebrations, Spring Toad Festival, American Tortoise Rescue’s World Turtle Day and The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup! There are also a number of volunteer days where you can participate in re-naturalizing habitat with tree, wetland and meadow plantings.
